William Tinsley Crane and Phoebe [Keith] Crane had a total of six children; William, Alexander, Lafayette, Juliett, James, and George.  Four of their five sons, William, Lafayette, James, and Alexander served in the Civil War; Lafayette died during the war on February 2, 1864 in Hickman, Fulton Co. KY as did James, July 28, 1964 in the Siege of Atlanta.  Their daughter Juliette's husband, William VanWert, also served in the Civil War and rose to the rank of Captain.  Juliette died circa 1867.  Their youngest son George, born circa 1855, died before 1870.  By the year 1870, four of their six children were dead. Sons William and Alexander lived to an older age dying in 1912 and 1910 respectively.

 

William Henry Crane

 

Enlisted as a Private on 07 September 1861. Enlisted in Company C, 29th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 07 September 1861. Received a disability discharge Company C, 29th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 30 December 1862

 

Alexander S. Crane

 

Enlisted in Company C, 29th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 18 September 1861. Received a disability discharge Company C, 29th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 03 July 1862. Enlisted as a Private on 18 September 1862

 

Lafayette Crane

 

Enlisted as a Private on 03 September 1863. Enlisted in  Company F, 7th Cavalry Regiment Indiana on 03 September 1863. Died  Company F, 7th Cavalry Regiment Indiana on 02 February 1864 in Hickman, KY.

 

James O. Crane

 

Enlisted as a Private on 15 December 1863. Enlisted in Company C, 128th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 15 December 1863. Died, Company C, 128th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 25 July 1864 likely in the siege of Atlanta GA.
